Match 4 was fished Friday 14th February at Marine Esplanade on a dry, calm, and cold evening. This was  a welcome change from recent conditions. Even better news was that the persistent weed, which had been causing problems along the shoreline (and was still present the night before), had finally cleared. That meant anglers could present their baits properly and fish with confidence.

While the fish weren’t present in huge numbers, they were certainly there to be caught. The 15 anglers fishing recorded a combined total of 99 fish, a solid return given the conditions.

Once again, Chris Cooper proved to be the man in form, claiming first place for the third consecutive match, an impressive hat-trick of wins. Superb consistency and top angling!

It was also fantastic to see a junior angler featuring in the prizes. Young Carson Anderson landed the longest fish of the night, a cracking 23cm rockling, a brilliant effort and great to see the next generation making their mark.

  • 1st – Chris Cooper: 21 fish – 443 points
  • 2nd – Ian Campbell: 18 fish – 380 points
  • 3rd – Lindsay Bell: 11 fish – 239 points
  • Longest Fish – Carson Anderson (Jnr): 23cm Rockling

With two rounds now completed, the Edinburgh New Year Shore League 2026 is starting to take shape, but there’s still plenty to be decided. As attention turns to Match 3, anglers will be hoping for slightly kinder conditions as they look to gain ground in the standings and put pressure on the early pace-setters. With consistency already proving crucial, the next match could play a key role in shaping the outcome of the league.
