The Possum Emerger

When visiting Tasmania a few years ago, Steve was told that the go-to pattern was one, Possum Emerger. He was informed that prior to his trip, that he'd be landing in an location where it would be dry fly heaven, only for him to land and discover 40-50mpg winds and fluttering snow...

Besides the weather not playing ball, this pattern certainly does and not just on the other side of the world. It's a bit fiddly to create, which is why the need for added wax is required in the production of this fly. The materials are very slippery and making sure your thread has a good grip, is paramount.

You'd be surprised to know as well, this pattern only consists of the hook, thread and possum hair/dubbing. Possum hair is also incredibly versatile and according to Steve, this hair will float all day long, it needs no extra floatant to stay afloat all-day.

All materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre or Edinburgh Angling Centre and are listed below. As always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes, we’ll be happy to help.
