Learn to tie the Blue Flash Diawl Bach with Steve Cullen https://ift.tt/ADHI6ZG

If you’ve never heard of the Blue Flash Damsel, you’ve likely missed one of the most effective stillwater patterns ever tied. Its success has been so consistent that it’s even been banned in some competitions. As a result, anglers have developed a range of clever alternatives and today, Steve walks us through one of them: the Blue Flash Diawl Bach.

This is a clean, no-nonsense pattern that takes its cues from the original Blue Flash Damsel but trims things back. It’s lighter, more subtle, and arguably more versatile, while still retaining that key trigger that makes the original so deadly.

The Blue Flash Diawl Bach really comes into its own in early to mid-summer, particularly from June through July. That’s when this fly can truly shine.

Tie a few up and stash them in your fly box. Whether you’re heading out for a casual session or planning a summer trip, give this pattern a run, you might quickly discover why these Blue Flash variants have earned such a strong reputation amongst anglers.

All materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre or Edinburgh Angling Centre and are listed below. As always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes, we'll be happy to help.
