Edinburgh Winter Shore League – Match 2 Report: Seafield Success in Calm Conditions
Date: Friday, 31 October
Location: Seafield, Edinburgh
Event: Match 2 – Edinburgh Winter Shore League
A Productive Night at Seafield
Twenty-seven anglers turned out for the three-hour session, and an impressive 240 fish were recorded between them.
While Whiting made up the majority of catches, there were also several Dab, Flounder, Rockling, and Codling among the returns - proof that the fish were well spread across the venue.
Gordon Lyall of EAC staff took the top spot with a superb display, landing 23 fish to claim victory.
Regular competitors Thomas Slow and Chris Cooper followed in second and third place respectively.
The Longest Fish award went to Chris Cooper for a fine 31 cm Whiting - well deserved!
League Standings
After Match 2, the league table is tightening nicely.
-
Chris Cooper and Ian Campbell (EAC Store Manager) are now tied for first on 13 points.
-
Davy Cooper, Gordon Lyall, and Stevie Souter are close behind on 11 points.
With four matches still to come, there’s everything to play for as the winter season continues.
Tactics and Approach
Many anglers reported that the key to success was, once again, to keep things simple.
Straightforward two- or three-hook flapper rigs and scratch rigs produced steady bites, particularly when baited with mackerel or lugworm.
As with Portobello earlier in the series, casting at varying distances helped locate the fish. Whiting were most active just beyond the surf line, while Dabs and Flounder were found closer in over sandy patches.
Maintaining light tackle and adjusting presentation as the tide changed proved crucial through the calm, clear water.
