Today we are checking out the Flat Daddy tied by Steve Cullen. Unlike the Daddy Long Legs, this pattern features a few unique differences. First of all, the foam is cut to the length of the hook rather than it sticking out beyond the hook, creating that iconic daddy long leg tail. The other key difference is the head of the fly which is tied in a Red Floss. Steve mentions this is one of the key triggers of this fly for Trout. The legs of this fly are also much shorter too.
All of the materials needed to tie this fly are available from Glasgow Angling Centre as listed below, but as always, if you need any help finding materials or substitutes then we'll be happy to help. Time to tie The Flat Daddy, with the guidance of Steve Cullen.
